The Past Within: Chapter 1 Walkthrough

Throughout this article, we’ll identify both players according to their chosen side. A player from the past will play against a player from the future.

A machine similar to the computer will be the topic of the first chapter in Future. A letter will be on the left side of Past, while a box with nine small buttons will be on the right. In order to turn the computer on, Future must click on the red switch on it. The screen will say “CUBICAL DEVICE 01BF” as soon as it turns on. The Cubical Device contains the memory of the past room for a particular person. Make sure that you communicate with the other player throughout the entire game so that you can help each other.

You’re about to make a connection with the person from the past when you press the Enter key below the screen of the Cubical Device. Past needs to read the letter and give it to Future by opening and reading the date. If you want to proceed, you need to enter the year 1926 in the machine. Past needs to know what the flashing blocks on the screen mean so he can open the box. Past will find the matchbox on the device once he confirms he has opened the box, and Future will be teleported to it. The Switch can be obtained by opening the Matchstick.

Future must then turn on the device by inserting the switch on the left side. Put the switch in P-17 and turn it on by clicking and dragging it to the left. Future will have to discuss the order of the four pictures with Past in order to set them up on the left side. The four paintings on the wall can be seen by going to the right side two times with a Past. According to the correct pattern, the pictures should look like this.

  • Top Left – Crow Painting
  • Top Right – Butterfly Painting
  • Bottom Left – Tree Painting
  • Bottom Right – Albert & Rose Painting

As soon as all the paintings are arranged correctly, Future will be able to see all the symbols at the same time. Using the same area as the paintings, Past needs to click on the box on the ground. So Past can open the box, tell him the symbols. Past will open the box and get coal, which he must use in the fire pit. Past will see three rows of five notches in each row above the fire pit once he uses the coal in the fire pit. The same pattern Past has in the diagram will appear on Future’s back side of the device. Place the notches in the correct order based on what Past sees in the diagram. Notches should be placed in the following positions.

Once all the notches are placed, the device will smoke up and a battery will emerge from the small container on the right. Take the battery and place it on the right side of the device. Smoke will start to escape through a small fan that starts spinning. Besides the battery, a timer will also be displayed: “17: 15”. Past should be told the time and switched to the clock. Past will set the time to 5:15. The smoke from Past’s room will start to clear. Past needs to go to the Coffin screen and the picture of Albert will break down. Pick up the picture and Past will find a key.

Past needs to put the key in the second drawer to find the face mask. Click on the mirror and put on the face mask to equip the face mask and Past will see that his room turns snowy. Now, go to the double door with glass on them with different shapes and symbols. Future will find a key and a picture of when the fan started spinning so he needs to place the key under the small circle on the right side of the fan of the device. Insert the key and rotate it to open the circular frame and Future will see a shape that looks like an eye. Three different symbols will also come outside around the eye and Past needs to tell the positions of the symbols around the eye shape on the glass door on the bottom right of his screen.

When the symbols match, Future will be able to look through the eye and two shapes will highlight. Past needs to click the shapes and the symbols around the eye will change. Past needs to tell the positions of the symbols again to Future and after placing the symbols in the right positions, more shapes will highlight, and Past needs to click them. The symbols will change again and then they have to repeat the process until the door opens and they both will see each other. Future will see Rose wearing the face mask and Rose will see the device.

Past will find some papers on the right side of the cupboard on which the device is placed. There’ll be positions of switches in those papers. Past needs to tell the positions of the switches to Future. Future needs to rotate to the left side of the device and turn down the first two switches in the first row and turn down the second switch in the second row. A tape will come out and then Future needs to insert the tape into the device. After loading the tape, it’ll show Albert Vanderboom on the coffin. Past needs to go to the coffin screen and click on the coffin to see the name. Future needs to tell the flashing alphabet on the coffin and Past needs to click those alphabets to open the coffin.

In order to proceed to the next screen, Future must press Enter on the device. It will then ask the closest thing to Albert. The code can be found by clicking Albert’s front pocket on the coat. This code must be entered into the machine by Future. There will then be three substances shown on the machine: Bone, Flesh, and Blood. For Past to be able to unlock the cupboard, he needs to put the orange triangle he found in the coffin on the top of it. It contains the same three symbols as the present: Bone, Flesh, and Blood.

Bone

There will be 20 buttons on the back side of the machine. Future needs to go there. The tool Past needs to open Albert’s mouth can be found by pulling the handle. It is Past’s responsibility to place the tool in Albert’s mouth, Future’s responsibility to tell Past where the flashing button should appear, and Past’s responsibility to pull that tooth out of Albert’s mouth. As long as Past doesn’t get the tooth he needs, they must communicate.

For Future to progress onto the net substance, the teeth sequence on the device must be confirmed with Past.

Flesh

Past should place the candles in the Flesh section inside the cupboard, and then place the diary there. Various areas of the room have lanterns hanging from the ceiling that hold candles. Place the candles on the stand next to the coffin after switching through the areas. The match stick will light all the candles, and one of them will contain a key. You can get the diary by using the key in the first drawer. In the Flesh section, place the diary.

Upon turning on the device, a screen will appear on the left side. According to the emotions written on the right side of the blocks by Albert, Future needs to send photos to Past and Past needs to fill a block with the pencil. Future and Past must communicate with each other in order to match the emotions with the pictures. In the following order, Past must fill in the blocks.

  • Bottom Right
  • Top Right
  • Bottom Left
  • Bottom Right
  • Top Left
  • Top Right

Past will get a Scalpel after filling out the order and he will need to cut Albert’s right ear with the Scalpel after he finishes filling out the blocks. It is now up to Future to confirm that the person in the Past is in possession of the flesh by pressing enter on the device.

Blood

In order to use the Blood substance, Future needs to rotate the device to the right side and select the substance. There will be six buttons on a block that will allow you to right the code. Until Future can read the code on the blood compartment in the cupboard, Past must tell him the code. You’ll receive a message behind the tree if you enter the code “3XZY21”. For the tree painting to be torn by Past, he must go to the painting area and click it. The code will be revealed in a new way. In the new message, Future needs to enter the code “X2Y13Z”, and a message will appear in his own reflection. The code will be revealed when Past stands before the mirror. Place the gem in the blood section in the cupboard to open the compartment and Past will get a bottle and a cotton swab. Past needs to go to Albert’s body and place the cotton swab in the left nostril and push in a couple of times. The blood will come out of the right nostril and use the bottle to collect the blood.

Now, Future needs to confirm the device that the Past got all the substances and the device will ask for the year of Future. There’ll be a mechanism on top of the cupboard and Past needs to place all three substances in the right section of the mechanism. The correct positions of all the substances are the following.

  • Blood in Top Left
  • Tooth in Bottom Left
  • Flesh in the Right

The mechanism will reveal another letter in which the year of Future will be written. Tell the year to Future to enter the device. Enter the year “1984” in the device to proceed. A red tree will generate on the screen of the device and the tape will come out. The device will tell Future to play the game of chess with the Past. Rotate the device to go to its back side and insert the tape. A time will show up as “19: 45” and the Past needs to set the clock to “8: 45”. Everything in the room will start to shake and as past switch through areas of the room, a vase right next to the coffin will break. Search the broken vase and Past will find the key.

Use the key in the third drawer to get two chess pieces. One white and one black. Now, Past needs to go to the table next to the fire pit and place the Chess Pieces on the chess board. Place the White Chess piece in the Bottom Right corner and the Black Chess piece in the Bottom Left corner. On the other side, Future will get a Screwdriver that he needs to use to open the bolts on the left side of the device. After opening the bolts, a chess board will come out with two chess pieces, Black and White.

Future needs to control the White chess piece and the Past needs to control the Black Chess Piece. In Past’s end, the White Chess piece will move on its own in whatever position it moves, Past needs to tell it to Future so he can move the White Chess piece in the same position. When Future does a turn on the White Chess piece, the black Chess piece will move on its own and then Future will have to tell the position of the Black Chess piece to Past so he can move the Black Chess piece to the same position on his chess board. They’ll both have to communicate for several turns and after that, Past will get a coin from the side of his chest board and Future will get Red Floppy Disk.

Future needs to pull out the yellow floppy disk from the device and enter the red floppy disk. A scary man will show up on the screen and the Past has to place both of the coins on the eyes of Albert’s body. His body will turn black and he’ll ask for your help. On the other side, the device will start to beep. All the placements of the symbols, notches, etc will change and you’ll have to put them in order with the help of Past. Future needs to change the notches into the following order.

  • 5th Notch on 1st Row
  • 2nd Notch on 2nd Row
  • 4th Notch on 3rd Row

Change the switches on the back side of the device in the following position.

  • 3rd Switch Down in 1st Row
  • 3rd Switch Down on 2nd Row

Set the other switches to the up position. Now, change the symbol in the eye according to the wall behind the coffin. Future will find Fuses and the shadow of Albert will stand behind Rose. Insert all three fuses in the device and a small compartment will open on the left side of the device. Pull the switch and a new time will show on the screen above. The time will be “21: 10” and Past needs to turn the clock to “9: 10”. A successful connection will be made and Past will get a Golden Cube from the shadow of Albert.

After placing the Golden Cube above the cabinet, Future must verify everything that has been happening, then Past and Future both must hold down the up key for ten seconds, and the new chapter will begin.
